Slide your finger over to the left to snooze and move on to the next place.
I really, really wanted to like this place. So much that I took my boyfriend here for his birthday lunch. It’s in the city center area where it’s known for upscale places. The social media platforms have wonderful pictures of food and latte art. It’s like an upscale place of Denny’s. There’s usually a wait and that just means it’s a great place to dine at, right? Wrong!
If you remember our wonderful dining experience at Kiran’s for our anniversary, that’s what I was expecting. Here’s another special day and to celebrate, we’ll check out Snooze.
We came a on a Monday afternoon for a table of two, so did not have a wait. The hostess welcomed us and then we were seated. Our server, Eddie, came a few minutes after to take our drink orders. My boyfriend and I both ordered water and then I remembered the gorgeous photos of latte art on Instagram. I’m already here, so why the heck not?
The latte “art” was $3.25+ tax. I paid for an “abstract” design where I could have made it with no experience at all. Here’s how our conversation went with Eddie. At that time, we already placed our order. My boyfriend got the breakfast pot pie and I got the snooze breakfast burrito with avocado, hold the bacon.
Me: I’d like a cappuccino please. Is that the one with the design on top?
Eddie: No, that’s the latte.
Me: Ok, I’ll take one of those please!
My latte came in their yellow cup. Eddie laughed and said something along the lines that latte is more of an abstract design. I took a glance at it. It was mostly foam with maybe a ripple of white undefined lines on top. How do you even serve this to someone when that was the sole purpose of ordering it? Super annoyed at this point! Okay okay, I shouldn’t order food for the sake of a picture. Move along.
I drank the latte and it was sort of gross. So I added some sugar, stirred it around and it was still gross. Alright, let’s put it aside and wait for our meals to come.
My boyfriend’s meal looked cool. There’s supposed to be some sausage rosemary sauce, but he didn’t taste it. Rosemary is a pretty distinct flavor. The taste is hard to miss. My breakfast burrito was a lot bigger than I imagined! Whoa, it could feed two people at least. It tasted like cheese and hash browns mixed together and came with three thin slices of avocado. It wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t what I imagined. Maybe I should have stuck with pancakes? You can’t mess up pancakes?
My boyfriend devoured his meal and nodded that it was good. BUT he also asked if we still had salad at home because he could have made a salad with well seasoned eggs to fulfill his hunger too. The egg on top didn’t look real, so it was pushed aside. The yolk looked really orange. He asked if he could try my latte. His water hasn’t been filled and our server passed us twice. “Go for it.” So he took a sip and immediately made a face. I laughed because that’s the same reaction I had.
At this point, we wanted to leave. Our stomachs start to grumble and not in a good way. Our checked was placed in front of my boyfriend. Hi, this is the 21st century. Gals can pick up checks too. *I* paid for the birthday lunch. Our server picked it up and then placed it in front of my boyfriend to sign. That shows how attentive he was. Strike 2.
We should have gone to Denny’s instead and our meal definitely wouldn’t have been slightly under $26. But even if it was, I would totally be OK with it. I hate to make it seem like it was all about my experience at Snooze, but I wished my boyfriend enjoyed his lunch too.
For the record, I did contact corporate Snooze and 3 days later, I have received a response back from Kelcie, “the social butterfly”. I was expecting some sort of automatic response, but was pleasantly surprised that Kelcie provided a human response. The response includes the usual comments like it was forwarded to corporate management, sincere apologies and please try Snooze again.
In order to have some perspective on a positive experience at Snooze, here are my pros below.
- Hostess greeted us and we were seated immediately in a small booth. Go after 12 noon on a weekday for a better chance
- Server acknowledged us and took our drinks with a couple minutes to spare on looking over the menu.
- Location is five minutes from the house with plenty of parking.
- Food is edible.
Happy birthday dear. It’s only 3pm here and we have the rest of the day to make it better. Here’s to turning a year wiser and selecting a better place next time. Snooze – you win some, you lose some.
