Pony unicorn macarons paired with Fruity Pebbles cereal. Whipped up a classic vanilla buttercream with Fruity Pebbles mixed in makes this a perfect treat.
Aren’t these pony unicorn macarons cute? It’s been a while since I’ve done “animal cracker” macarons. When Honey and Butter introduced their version of tokidoki’s unicornos, I fell in love. Who could resist a macaron with bright colors and full of details?
When I think of unicorns, the first few words that pop into my head are 1) magical or majestic 2) colors and 3) great hair. Voluminous hair. Not dry and flat like mine.
So with that image, I decided to start with a basic unicorn template – an oval head, soaring body and then added details for the beautiful hair. Yes ma’am, these pony unicorns are soaring. Its hair is blowing in the wind. Smacking you in the face as it whips its head around. Who else is imagining a Herbal Essences commercial right now?
Anyway, once I had a template created, the piping work began.
Oval head – check
Weird half donut body – check
Vibrant majestic hair – could use some work, but check.
Fruity Pebbles – yes please and lots of it.
This is what I came up with. Thoughts?
Pony Unicorn Macaron Notes
● For the batter colors, you may use the same batch. If you’re making lots of macarons, you may create a color for each batter you mix. You may want more electric pink than turquoise or orange, so the amount is up to you. As for the eyes, a bit of black batter works. Otherwise, you may draw on the eyes using a black edible food marker like I did.
● If you’d like your pony unicorn macarons to sparkle, using metallic edible paint and gold luster dust are good options. Please make sure you’re using a non-toxic paintbrush.
● And finally, if you are feeling brave, grind up the Fruity Pebbles cereal and add it into the dry ingredients. If not, I’d suggest making a regular vanilla buttercream. Then sprinkle some cereal on top of the buttercream before pairing it together.
The pony unicorn macarons were fun to make. If you have flavor ideas, I’d love to hear them. So please leave your ideas down below. Thank you!
